Ismael was born in Chicago in 1964. When he was 4 years old his parents moved back to their original place, Puerto Rico. Maelo grew up in the mountains where at a very young age his inclinations for the music was showing with the Influence of the native music and the "Trobadores" singers. In 1987 he graduated with a BS degree in Agronomy and Soils from the University of Puerto Rico. At this time he was the music director for his local church where his musical influence had a mix of contemporary and traditional music with a heavy touch of the Caribbean sound.
With the influenced of many different sounds and cultures, Maelo try to find a place that will bring it all together. He produced and recorded "ALEGORIA". The allegoric way to speak the wonders of God through music. In this production he revives old Hispanic hymns like "Pescador De Hombres" and "Unidos". He also brings other sound like "Alegoria", Give You Honor and Bajo La Ceiba where the puertorrican Cuatro and the sound of Taylor and Tacoma Guitars get married in the landscape of other instruments. His brother David Reyes and his friends Eddie Casillas and Carlos Castro are the main artists that form the M&R Christian Music "Alegoria team". Maelo always says "No can do without the ayuda of David, Carlos and Ed". Enjoy the music and be blessed!
